¿Alguna vez has escuchado el término “Team driver”?

En Estados Unidos, la Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration o por sus siglas FMCSA, es la encargada de regular las horas de servicio en las que un operador tiene permitido manejar un camión de carga.

El motivo es evitar accidentes, por esta razón solo se puede conducir 11 horas en un periodo de 14 horas seguidas, luego de 10 horas de descanso, sin acumular más de 60 o 70 horas de servicio en siete u ocho días.

Pero, ¿qué pasa cuando un envío es urgente?, ¿no podrá llegar a tiempo debido a estas normas?. La respuesta está en el Team Driver.

Team Driver

El término Team Driver se utiliza para llamar a un equipo, de dos o más personas, que se pueden turnar para conducir un mismo camión, y de esta forma, permitir que el envío siga avanzando sin incumplir el límite de tiempo establecido por la FMCSA.

Los operadores realizan el registro de sus horas conducidas mediante un hardware llamado ELD (Electronic Logging Device), que les permite durante el viaje llevar un récord de su estatus actual, e imprimir los registros de sus horas ingresadas cuando los inspectores del Departamento de Transporte lo requieran.

Algunos otros nombres que se le dan a este tipo de servicio son:

  • Carga acelerada
  • Carga exprés
  • Flete de emergencia
  • Overnight Trucking
  • Team Trucking

Costos

Al tratarse de un servicio de entrega más rápido que un envío regular, los costos suelen ser más elevados, ya que, se utiliza como un servicio de emergencia cuando se tiene que cumplir con una fecha límite.

Sin embargo, hay formas de ahorrar dinero con este servicio, pues ofrece servicios como LTL o de carga menor, lo que significa que no tiene que pagar un camión completo si su carga no ocupa todo el espacio de este.
