El proceso de contratación de esta póliza generalmente lo hace la agencia de aduana representante del dueño de la carga, que intercede ante la compañía naviera y las autoridades.
Una vez que se entrega la salida de los contenedores, establecen los acuerdos de Free time (Tiempo libre de entrega del contenedor).
De esta forma, al realizar la entrega de los contenedores en el depósito, se hacen las revisiones y se firman las constancias de los documentos.
Si los contenedores no se devuelven en el tiempo acordado (generalmente 5 días) las navieras tendrán el derecho a una indemnización por mayor utilización del contenedor “Demurrage”.
En conclusión, los seguros de contenedores son un soporte para los riesgos de las operaciones de comercio exterior, proporcionan protección al patrimonio de las compañías navieras, así como para los consignatarios. Estas pólizas, complementan a los seguros de transporte tradicionales.
