La logística, como todos los otros rubros, tiene su propia terminología. En esta ocasión veremos qué es el freight collect y el freight prepaid.
En español estos términos se pueden definir de la siguiente manera: freight prepaid es flete prepagado. Y freight collect, es flete por cobrar.
Si estás metido en logística, o haz recibido algún embarque, muy probablemente haz visto el Bill of Landing viene una leyenda que dice “prepaid”, o “collect”, pero ¿te has preguntado que significa?.

Estos dos términos de los que hablamos en este escrito son básicamente arreglos de flete. Cualquiera de los dos pueden ser usados para definir la responsabilidad de costos de envío en el comercio internacional.
Definiciones de estos dos términos
Freight prepaid es cuando los gastos de transporte serán pagados por el remitente. El consignatario, o el forwarder, es el responsable por todos los cargos LTL (less-than-truckload). Este término también es conocido como “Prepaid and add”, o “paga por prepago y añade”.
Hay dos escenarios para freight prepaid.
- FOB Origin, Freight prepaid: el comprador se hace cargo del envío cuando este es levantado por el carrier. Sin embargo, el vendedor mantiene responsabilidad por el costo y seguridad del envío.
- FOB Destination, Freight prepaid: el vendedor es dueño del envío durante el proceso de envío y es responsable por el costo y seguridad del envío hasta entrega.
Freight collect es cuando los gastos de transporte serán pagados por el comprador. Esta persona puede ser el que recibe o manda el envío. Todos los cargos LTL (less-than-truckload) son responsabilidad del comprador. Este tipo de cargo de flete generalmente se le llama “Collect upon arrival” o “paga al momento de entrega” porque, como el nombre lo dice, se paga al momento de entrega.
Los dos escenarios para freight collect.
- FOB Origin, Freight collect: el comprador o receptor recibe es dueño del envío desde el momento en que este es recogido por el carrier. El comprador es responsable por el costo y seguridad del paquete hasta su entrega.
- FOB Destination, Freight collect: el vendedor es dueño del embarque durante el proceso de envío, y sería responsable si algo le pasa a este. Sin embargo, el comprador es responsable por el costo del embarque.
Es muy importante conocer tanto estos términos, como todo lo que tenga que ver con tus embarques, ya que es muy fácil caer en contratos con malos términos al no entender lo que se está firmando.
